Flyers suffer hangover from Miller time

The Flyers-Sabres series is now a best of three, with a crucial Game 5 looming on Friday night.

That’s because for the second time in less than a week, Sabres’ goalie Ryan Miller stole a game from the Flyers, 1-0.

He stoned them in the opener at the Wells Fargo Center, and repeated the torture last night in Buffalo. In the process he stopped more than 60 shots, and didn’t allow any of them to get by him.

The Flyers took Games 2 and 3 before being stonewalled again by Miller last night.

If the Flyers fall in this series, they will not be able to blame their old nemesis, spotty goaltending. You can’t blame Brian Boucher for last night’s loss. He let only one shot get past him, just enough to get him and the Flyers beat, 1-0.

It was the same song in the series opener, when Sergei Bobrovsky was solid, but still lost, 1-0.

The shift from Bobrovsky to Boucher has been pretty much seamless.

The Flyers’ goalie is not the issue here; the Sabres’ goalie is. The Flyers can’t beat him.

And unless they solve that riddle, they face the prospect of a most unwelcome early summer.
