Looking for Phillies in a baseball desert

In their ultimate wisdom, the poobahs that run Major League Baseball have seen fit to withhold Phillies baseball from us until Friday.

You read that right. Yes, it's the All-Star break. The game is played tonight in New York City. On a Tuesday night. But the Phils will not resume their hunt for a playoff spot until Friday.

If you look hard - and stay up late - you might get a glimpse of Cliff Lee and Dom Brown, the only two Phillies on hand at CitiField in the Big Apple.

It's not as if the Phils needed the extra day for travel. They start the second half in New York against the Mets this weekend. But they won't get started until Friday.

In the meantime, columnist Jack McCaffery has the rundown on Brown's All-Star debut. Yes, the young outfielder admits to being a big star-struck. Jack also offers some suggestions to Ruben Amaro Jr. as to what the club should do as the trade deadline looms in two weeks. You can check that one out here.

Just don't expect any games any time soon. Somehow, the news that Ron Hextall is returning to the Flyers' front office just doesn't cut it for me.
