Boeing makes case for Chinook program today

These are tough times at Boeing.

You may have heard they have grounded their troubled 737 Max jets after two deadly crashes that left 346 people dead.

Closer to home, a massive Chinook program that would have guaranteed thousands of jobs at Boeing sprawling plant in Ridley are now in danger because the Army is now looking to delay - or scrap altogether - the program.

So to draw attention - and offer a much-needed boost - to morale, they're going to hold something of a pep rally at the plant today.

U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-5 of Swarthmore, will on hand for a ceremony to mark the first flight of its Chinook Block II copter. If you see them in the air over the river today don't get too concerned. That's all part of the program.

We'll be there to let you know how it goes.

In a way this is Boeing going on the offensive. The Block II upgrade program is the very one that is on the chopping block by the Army. Today's event will work not only to show off Boeing's work, but also to stress how important these jobs are to the Delco and regional economy.
