Bryce Harper has 'it'

Bryce Harper has "it."

What is "it?"

Good question.

But whatever "it" is, Bryce Harper has "it."

When he comes to the plate, it's not just an at-bat. It's an event.

And it's must-see TV.

You stop whatever it is you are doing and pay attention.

The Phillies have not had moments like these since Ryan Howard was in the heart of their lineup.

This started on opening day - when Harper did not even get a hit. But his presence made all the difference. With runners on second and third and first base open, the Braves went with the chalk. They offered Harper an intentional walk to get to Rhys Hoskins, who of course promptly hit the first grand slam of his career.

Then Harper heated up on Saturday.

I actually called this one. Ask my wife. Harper worked the count to his advantage. I turned to my wife and said, "He hits this pitch out."

Bingo!

Harper crushed a pitch into the second level; in right field, about 465 feet away.

I actually had the same feeling last night. But I was off by an at-bat. Harper hit a moon shot that likely did not carry as far in the cold air. In July that ball might still be going.

Harper has now hit home runs in consecutive games.

The Phillies swept the Braves and are baseball's only undefeated team.

Brace yourself for a great summer.

The "it" factor is back.

And Bryce Harper has "it."
