Killion gunning for more gun law changes

Tom Killion doesn't look like a gunslinger.

But the longtime state rep and now state senator is shooting his way into a most unlikely position - at least for most elected Republicans in this state.

Killion is taking on the gun industry.

Relax, as I always caveat every time I write about guns, this isn't really about the Second Amendment. It's not going away, nor should it.

But at the same time, it is not absolute. Hell, even Antonin Scalia admitted that.

Last year Killion was successful in getting a bill through the Legislature that would make it easier to get guns out of the hands of those involved in domestic abuse. The law went into effect Wednesday.

But the Middletown Republican is not done.

Now he's back with another push to once again try to get guns out of the hands of those the court deems a danger - either to themselves or others.

Ironically, this often is not about people using a gun on someone else. Too often their target is themselves. Suicides still make up a huge chunk of the annual gun deaths in this state.

Once again gun rights groups are targeting this legislation.

Killion shot them down once.

We hope he can do it again.

It's on today's editorial page.
