Meet the 2019 All-Delco Hi-Q team

It's pretty easy for young people to get their names in the newspaper.

All they have to do is something wrong.

We print those kinds of reports all the time.

But I'm often quizzed by people who wonder about all the times kids are doing the right thing, even good things, that often go overlooked.

It's true. That's the nature of news, or at least much of it.

Kids doing what they are supposed to do doesn't always sound like news.

I've always wondered about that.

It's one of the reasons this past weekend is one of favorite editions of the year.v On Sunday we presented our annual All-Delco Hi-Q team. It's patterned off our popular All-Delco sports teams. We select these teams at the conclusion of every high school sports season. In fact, we just finished up the winter All-Delco teams last week. But this Sunday it was time for some academic All-Stars.

The 21 members of the All-Delco Hi-Q team are selected by their fellow teammates, one from each school that participates in Hi-Q, the oldest academic quiz competition in the country.

It's important to offer a balanced view of young people. It's easy for that image to get skewed by some of the stories that dominate the news most days.

This is an effort to counterbalance that.

Meet the members of the 2019 All-Delco Hi-Q team.
