Poll: Biden still front-runner in Pa. - but his lead is shrinking

In political circles - and those who cover them - it's known as the horserace.

Get used to it. You're going to be hearing a lot of it over the next 11 months.

It is the focus on polls, and who happens to be leading the race.

Well, one of the benchmarks in Pennsylvania politics, the Franklin & Marshall College poll, is out with some of their first findings.

It has good news - and bad news- for Joe Biden, from next-door Delaware. And a few things for the GOP to worry about when it comes to President Trump.

The good news for Biden is that he remains the clear leader in Pennsylvania to be the Democrats' standard bearer. But the bad news is that his lead is shrinking. He scored 22 percent to lead Bernie Sanders at 15 percent and Elizabeth Warren at 14 percent. That's down from his 30 percent polling in October.

About two in five (38%) registered voters in Pennsylvania believe President Trump is doing an “excellent” or “good” job as president, which is slightly higher than his October Franklin & Marshall College Poll rating.

Two in five (41%) registered voters believe President Trump has done a good enough job to deserve re-election and most (83%) of these respondents say they will vote for him no matter who runs against him.

For Democrats, health care continues to be their top concern, with 20% putting it as the top issue they are considering in selecting a presidential candidate and that honesty (42%) is the quality they most want in a candidate.

The F&M Poll reflects interviews with 628 Pennsylvania registered voters, including 292 Democrats, 251 Republicans and 85 independents conducted by the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College from January 20-26, 2020.
