The dreaded Saturday pick

Yes, Iggles fans, if it's Saturday, it's time once again for the dreaded Eagles pick.

But first, another confession. I was as surprised as anyone with the way the Birds, and QB A.J. Feeley, played Sunday night against the Patriots. It was clearly their best effort of the season, even in a losing effort.

Feeley's efforts, both in almost puling off a miraculous win as well as throwing several key interceptions that led to the loss, touched off a firestorm of a week swirling arond who will be behind center on Sunday at the Linc.

Our huffy, full-of-himself leader, Andy Reid, doesn't see what all the fuss is about. He also has failed to see for years now that Donovan McNabb's talents are not suited to running his popgun West Coast offense.

I think it's safe to say that Feeley will get the call on Sunday. Reid can simply lay this one off on McNabb, still nursing a tender ankle and bum thumb, not being ready to play.

Then, after the game, our haughty coach can reiterate that Donovan is the starter if he's healthy.

Which won't go down very well after Feeley leads the Birds to a 19-13 win over the Seahawks.

The elements don't look like they're going to be too favorable for offense on Sunday. The weather folks are calling for snow, freezing rain and then rain. Brian Westbrook may have more to do with this win than Feeley.

But a win is a win. The Eagles' playoff hopes will remain alive, and the city will be engulfed in a full-fledged quarterback controversy when Reid makes it clear that he is going back to McNabb.

Ho, ho, ho, indeed!
