We probably should have seen this one coming.
There’s another chapter in the Ackley family saga. You might remember Carol Ackley. She used to work for the Ridley School District. Ended up entering a plea for swindling the district out of more than $570,000. She says she is a gambling addict and blew it all at local casinos.
An interesting thing happened at her trial. Prosecutors grilled her husband when he took the stand, claiming he didn’t know where she was getting all that money as she sat next to him on many of those occasions.
You got the distinct impression from prosecutors that they didn’t believe him.
Neither, apparently, did police.
Yesterday they charged Herbert Ackley, also a former Ridley School District employee, with being a willing participant in the conspiracy.

Herbert Ackley testified at his wife’s trial that he was “shocked” when he found out his wife had stolen the money.
Yesterday police had another shocker for him. They charged him with receiving stolen property, theft and conspiracy, saying he was with her on jaunts to 10 different casinos when they dropped large sums of money.
It was pretty clear during her trial that Carol Ackley had rolled the dice – and lost. Now it appears as if her husband is about to crap out as well.
