You don’t often see a judge is as blunt as Delaware County’s own Judge Frank Hazel.
It couldn’t be more refreshing.
Standing in front of Hazel yesterday was one Thomas Pierce.
Pierce had pleaded “no contest” to involuntary manslaughter charges in the fire in his Clifton Heights home that took the life of his 14-month-old son.
Tests on Pierce, who had been asleep on a living room couch at the time, showed a mixture of drugs in his system.
Hazel minced no words in addressing him
“You, sir, love drugs more than you love anyone,” Hazel said.
He then sentenced Pierce to three and a half to 10 years in prison.
Hopefully Pierce can straighten out his life in that time. Maybe the thought of once again standing in front of Hazel will help that process.
Good for Hazel. And good for justice.
