Meehan's problem

Bryan Lentz was in attack mode yesterday.

He smells blood in the water. And he made like that Great White in “Jaws.”

The blood is emanating from the nominating petitions of Republican Pat Meehan.

Meehan and Lentz are going mano a mano in the 7th District Congressional race.

Yes, Lentz still has to fend off a couple of Democrating challengers in the primary. But make no mistake. This one will come down to Lentz vs.
Meehan.

And that’s why Lentz is attacking.

He stood in front of the federal courthouse, where Meehan once worked as U.S. Attorney, and called for a federal probe of Meehan’s petitions.

They have more potholes than Baltimore Pike.

You can check Tim Logue’s story here.

The surprising thing about all this that Meehan’s image has always been one of the squeaky clean prosecutor who took no prisoners – from either party – in going after public corruption.

Now this is pretty minor league stuff. Every campaign has petition problems. But not on this scale.

I don’t know exactly how Meehan managed to get himself into this position. Maybe he was relying on the GOP’s apparatus. And it is that apparatus that is used to doing what they want, and not getting called on it.

Lentz is calling them on it.

And it’s not going to go away until Meehan addresses the problem.

The sooner the better.
