A shadow on Phils' brilliant start

They are the three most-feared letters in sports.

MRI.

And just that quickly a shadow has fallen across the Phillies’ brilliant
6-1 start, their best since 1993.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins was a last-second scratch from the home opener on Monday. It turns out he tweaked a calf muscle in warmups before the game.

He was due to get an MRI last night, but the team is saying very little.
They likely will address the situation later today.

Bet on Rollins winding up on the DL for 15 days. It will be interesting to see if Charlie Manuel tinkers with his lineup, maybe swapping Shane Victorino into the leadoff spot, and dropping backup shortstop Juan Castro into the 7th spot.

The one real pitching blip the Phils have suffered gets a chance to redeem himself today. Kyle Kendrick, who got lit up over four innings last week in D.C., heads to the hill against those same Nats tonight.

It will be a night for some serious channel-flipping. The Flyers kick off the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Devils in North Jersey.

The Flyers had their way with Martin Brodeur and the Devils during the regular season. They posted a 5-1 mark. So, naturally it would be just like the orange and black in this wildly unpredictable season in which they were expected to be Stanley Cup favorites and ended up sneaking into the playoffs in a shootout on the last day of the regular season, to go into the tank.

Devils in six.

And let’s not forget the Sixers. Their thoroughly miserable season comes to an end tonight in Orlando.

But the drama will be off the court. How long do you think it will take the team to throw the switch on coach Eddie Jordan. And will the ax fall on GM and Delco native Ed Stefanski as well?

Owner Ed Snider is already denying reports the team is talking to Charlotte about the possibility of bringing back Larry Brown. Which probably means that’s exactly what they have in mind.

Just another wild day in Philly sports.
