Stealing the Phillies' thunder
The “gold standard” apparently doesn’t like to be resigned to second place.
In case you were wondering, today is opening day of Phillies season.
But for now, it is all Donovan all the time.
I don’t happen to believe for an instant that is a coincidence. I think the Eagles knew exactly what they were doing when they rolled out the blockbuster news last night that Donovan McNabb, the lightning rod starting rod QB for the past 11 years, was being shipped to the Redskins.
So much for the Phillies’ opening day. Today’s front page and back pages are dominated by the news of the McNabb trade. Which I’m sure makes the folks down at NovaCare Nation happy.
In my print column today, I wrote about how the Eagles are now No. 2 (in more ways than one), looking up at the new kings of the hill, the Phillies.
But the Eagles are back in the catbird’s seat today, after jettisoning their leader and face of the franchise.
Donovan McNabb now plays in Washington, D.C. That just happens to be where the Phillies kick off the season today.
Gold standard? Hardly. It strikes me as just another less than sparkling move to steal the Phillies thunder.
