The Stefanski watch begins

Who needs Air Jordan when you can have Err Jordan instead?

Mercifully, the Eddie Jordan era ended yesterday morning, just hours after the 76ers dropped their final game of the season.

What I found interesting was who dropped the ax. That would be Drexel Hill native Ed Stefanski, the team’s president and G.M.

The Jordan connection is not the first move by Stefanski to go under the microscope. There was the idea of letting point guard Andre Miller Walk.
There was bringing in Elton Brand. There was showering a huge new contract on Andrew Iguodala.

But so far Stefanski’s signature move was Jordan. That is unfortunate.
The Princeton offense Jordan wanted to install here never got off the ground. Players spent most of the season trying to figure out their role in Jordan’s plan. Most of them never did.

So the Sixers now seek their fourth head coach in the last three years.

It should be noted who accompanied Stefanski at yesterday’s press conference.

Nobody.

That leaves many wondering if the Delco guy has a future with the team.
For now, Stefanski appears to be in control. He said yesterday he will begin the search for Jordan’s successor immediately, but he stressed there is no timetable for putting a new man in place.

It remains to be seen if owner Ed Snider feels the same way about his president and G.M.
