Vitali to back Lentz today

State Rep. Bryan Lentz will pick up an endorseement today from a guy who at one point was considering challenging him for the Democratic nomination in the 7th District congressional race.

Lentz, D-161, will pay a visit to the Haverford home of fellow Dem state Rep. Greg Vitali, D-166, later this morning.

It is expected Vitali, the maverick who focuses much of his efforts in Harrisburg on the environment and “green” issues, will throw his support to Lentz. Of course, Lentz still has to win the Democratic primary. He is being challenged by Elizabeth Touey. He is expected to win easily.

That will set up what many experts are saying will be one of the most-watched congressional races in the nation – and maybe the most expensive in Delaware County history.

Lentz will tangle with former Delco D.A. and U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan.
The Republican noted yesterday that he has gone over the $1 million mark in fundraising. The Lentz war chest stands at a little bit south of that mark.

Experts say the two could spend as much as $8 million on the seat that is being vacated by Joe Sestak, who is challenging Sen. Arlen Specter for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate.

Buckle your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
