I stated yesterday that there is nothing in sports that really compares to the drama of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Having said that, I can tell you there in the Stanley Cup playoffs, there is nothing quite like a Game 7. It’s all or nothing.
That is just part of the historical backdrop that will play out tonight in Boston when the Flyers look to make a little hockey history.
The orange and black will be looking to do something that has not been done since 1975. That would be coming back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series. The Islanders did it; before them you have to go back to 1942 and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Given the injuries they’ve overcome, in particular with their problems keeping the guy between the pipes healthy, it’s a little bit of a miracle that the Flyers are even in this position, having won three straight games to knot the series.
Michael Leighton is back in goal, himself having just returned from an ankle injury that in truth is not yet 100 percent. He takes over for Brian Boucher, who took over for an injured Leighton, had had stepped in with Ray Emery went down.
They do have this going for them. This year in the Stanley Cup playoffs, road teams are 3-0 in Game 7’s.
Game 7. Flyers vs. Bruins. Sports does not get better than this.
