Slumlord? They'll have none of it

Cheers bar owner Bob Herdelin came out swinging yesterday in his war of words with Upper Darby top cop Mike Chitwood.

And he had some unusual supporters.

The owner of the notorious nightspot is not taking lightly to Chitwood’s normal salty description of his establishment. He also is not taking especially kindly to being referred to by the top cop as a “slumlord.”

You can read all about it here.

Four nuns, members of the Sisters of St. Joseph, joined Herdelin for a press conference outside the Upper Darby police station Monday. They offered glowing praise of Herdelin, and the shore homes he routinely let them use.

“He’s a stellar man to be respected,” one of the sisters said.

Chitwood vows he will answer the charges from Herdelin in court.

But he apparently couldn’t resist when he wondered if any of the sisters had ever been inside Cheers. Apparently not.
