28 years ... and still more changes

For you, it’s probably just Monday, the start to another seemingly endless week.

To a lot of people, it’s a lot more than that. It’s Flag Day.

But for me, June 14 will always be something else entirely. It’s an anniversary.

It was exactly 28 years ago that I walked into the Delaware County Daily Times for my first day of work. You can check out my print column on it here.

This business – and how those of us who work in it do our jobs – has changed considerably over the past three decades.

But nothing has been as challenging as our current initiative, the Ben Franklin Project.

It’s pretty simple, really. We’re looking to engage readers in ways we never did before.

For instance, we are planning a series of stories that will kick off on July 4 when we publish our Ben Franklin edition, focusing on the problem of property taxes.

We want you to get involved. We want to know if you are struggling with your bills. We want to know if you are a school board member and are trying to make the numbers add up. We want to know if you’re an elected official and you have a better way of funding our education system.

Contact our two lead writers on this project, Paul Luce and Kathleen Carey, at pluce@delcotimes.com, or kcarey@delcotimes.com.

Get involved. You’re no longer just readers. You’re now a part of the news-gathering process.
