It’s been at least a year or two since they changed the name of the joint where the Flyers and Sixers play.
So of course that means it must be time to once again play the name game.
This place has had more names that Elizabeth Taylor.
Brace yourself for the Wells Fargo Center.
Why don’t they just call it the Bank? You know, where you deposit your money. And where all those big-bucks players stash the the incredible amounts they are paid to play little kids’ games.
All of this is a way of backgrounding that the Wachovia Center is about to undergo still another name change.
The building first opened in 1996 as the CoreStates Center. That gave way to the First Union Center, mocked by some as the FU Center. Luckily, that didn’t last long. They hung the Wachovia logo on the join in 2003.
Wells Fargo swallowed Wachovia last year, hence the need for still one more name change.
Of course, one thing has not changed.
Zero. That would be the number of championships won in the place.
