Inhaling (and exhaling) some Philly sports

You can exhale now, Phillies fans.

In the meantime, Flyers fans are still holding their breath.

The Phils finally seemed to break out of their extended slump last night, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits and then holding on to beat the Marlins, 10-8.

There were lots of good signs, at least offensively. Chase Utley had two hits. Ryan Howard had one of his patented blasts, driving the ball the other way and taking it out in left field. When Howard starts hitting the ball deep into the left-field alley, you know he’s starting to get dialed in.

Jayson Werth got another night off from manager Charlie Manuel as he continues to struggle. Looks like the right move. His replacement, Ben Francisco, drove in the winning run.

Now the spotlight once again will shift to the Flyers, unless of course Roy Halladay decides to toss another perfect game tonight. His toughest foe just might be the weather. Rain is in the forecast.

It was raining insults yesterday in the Flyers-Blackhawks series, after the Chicago Tribune yesterday saw fit to print a full page poster of Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger in a skirt.

They labeled him ‘Chrissy Pronger.’ Nice.

He wasn’t taking the bait, declaring he never reads the papers, whether what is being written is good or bad. Maybe he reads blogs.

If so, we have a new offering for him – and all Flyers fans in the region.

We asked fans to supply a blog so we could keep our finger on the pulse of Flyers nation. Al Redrup and Arie Mangrum stepped up to the plate.

They write the Upon Official Review blog, as well as a Twitter feed.

They’ll be blogging live during tonight’s game, and hopefully right through the deciding Game 7 Friday night.

You can get to their blog here.

There is no room for error now. Michael Leighton can no longer afford a bad period. Chris Pronger must be on his game.

The Flyers have been here all too often in this bizarre off-season. They should be comfortable. They have their backs to the wall.

Again.
