More on that bus driver

There are several troubling aspects about the charges filed against the Wallingford-Swarthmore bus driver for being behind the wheel while under the influence.

But one number stands out to me.

0.374.

That is the blood-alcohol level veteran bus driver Christine Rogers allegedly tested out at after her arrest.

That’s almost four times the legal limit of 0.08. Actually it’s even more for a bus driver, where the legal limit for intoxication is lower.

What that tells you is that Rogers wasn’t tipsy or buzzed. She was hammered. And that apparently did not stop her from climbing behind the wheel and transporting a student. At least one young charge was along for the harrowing ride. He was uninjured but still shaken up.

There is one silver lining in this story. It belongs to Cesar Martinez.
He’s the guy who noticed the bus being operated erratically on the Blue Route and alerted police. He followed the bus into Swarthmore, where it plowed over a street sign and ran down some shrubs before police corraled Rogers.

Good for him. As for Rogers, she’s getting an evaluation at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Sounds like a good idea.
