Our blog does not runneth over.
Instead, as it has since 1975. It remains empty.
The Flyers did not win the Stanley Cup. They will not play a deciding Game 7 Friday night in Chicago.
That’s because they Blackhawks won the Cup about four minutes and change into overtime last night on a goal most people did not even see. But the replay did not lie.
Goal. Season over.
Mother Nature and the Phillies cleared the stage for the Flyers early last night, postponing Roy Halladay’s rematch with the Marlins.
The Flyers gave it back a few hours later. Summer started around 11:30.
Yes, the Flyers gave us a helluva Stanley Cup run. They got in on the very last day of the season, and it took a shootout win against the Rangers to do it.
The rallied from three games down against the Bruins, fell behind 3-0 in the first period of Game 7, and still managed to win.
But they could not win a game in Chicago, and last night failed for the first time to defend their home ice.
They took a 2-1 win in the second period, but still could not hold off the Blackhawks.
Now they start planning for next year. Who will be the goalie? What will happen with this team’s original starter this year, Ray Emery? Anyone remember him? Is Michael Leighton a No. 1 goalie.
Those questions remain to be answered, while still one more city celebrates a championship.
That’s something the Flyers have not done since 1975. Our sports depression was eased by the Phillies and their World Series Championship two years ago. They went back to the Fall Classic last year, but lost to the Yankees. Now the Flyers have fallen once again.
Summer started late last night.
How ‘bout that Roy Halladay.
