Maybe this is the kind of karma jolt the Phillies needed.
Let’s face it, some weird things happened last night at Citizens Bank Park. There was that bizarre play at first where Reds’ pitcher Johnny Cueto lose his glove on a play at first base that saw first baseman Joey Votto handle the ball three different times.
There was Phils’ reliever Ryan Madson in his first appearance back in the lineup, appearing to record as strikeout in the eighth, only to see the ball skip to the backstop. Unfortunately, both Madson and catcher Brian Schneider decided to track the ball down, leaving home plate unattended. The Reds runner promptly helped himself to home, tying the game.
Brad Lidge, who looked so good the other night, blowing a save opportunity in the ninth.
Jayson Werth was caught on camera berating a father who was at the game with his son who interfered with his chance to catch a foul pop as he leaned into the stands. Nice.
And finally there was Schneider, making up for leaving home plate unattended, and opening the door to the tie game, providing the walk-off dramatics with a laser shot into the seats in right in the 12th.
Like I said, maybe that will be the jolt the Phils needed.
Why do I get the feeling it isn’t?
