Politics is a contact sport.
Joe Sestak and Pat Toomey proved that again yesterday in Havertown, when they almost bumped into each other while holding events just blocks away from each other.
If you thought you were going to get the summer off when it comes to the Pennsylvania Senate race, guess again.
Toomey put out an advisory last week that he would be holding a press conference at the home of a supporter in Haverford to spell out the differences between himself and Sestak when it comes to federal bailouts. He’s agains them, and raps Sestak’s support for them.
As is the new political form these days, that prompted the Democrat Sestak to rush into action, holding his own event in the same neighborhood and blast Toomey as allegedly being out of touch when it comes to small business, even questioning Toomey’s background as a guy who started his own business.
Used to be Labor Day was the traditional starting point for the fall campaign.
Now maybe it’s the Fourth of July.
One thing is certain. We aren’t going to be “independent” from politics this summer.
The Sestak-Toomey race to replace Sen. Arlen Specter promises to be a barn-burner.
Not far behind will be the increasingly contentious battle for Sestak’s 7th District Congressional seat. Republican Pat Meehan and Democrat Bryan Lentz seem to lob grenades at each other on a daily basis.
Think the weather outside is bumpy? That’s nothing to what the political landscape is going to be like around here for the next couple of months.
Buckle your seatbelts. It’s going to be a rough ride.
