A tale of two cities

They’re having a little party down at Harrah’s in Chester today. In Atlantic City, they’re holding a wake.

A couple of days after they took the wraps off their swanky new table games, a host of dignitaries will hit the Chester casino to announce that the city, county and state have hit the jackpot. They will cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of table games at Harrah’s.

In the meantime, down in Atlantic City, Gov. Chris Christie will hit town this afternoon and announce a plan to completely revamp the shore gambling mecca – again.

Christie will announce a plan to have the state take over almost all aspects of the town’s casino district, including the boardwalks and beach areas.

Gambling was supposed to save Atlantic City. For a awhile, it did. Now they are literally not the only game in town. Neighboring states such as Pa. have slowly but surely been chipping away at Atlantic City’s gambling stakes.

The dagger in the heart may have occurred Sunday, when Harrah’s in Chester, Parx in Bucks County, and the Sands in the Lehigh Valley all kicked off table games.

Now Christie once again will try to reinvent the wheel, at least the gambling wheel, in Atlantic City.

It would only be appropriate if they had classic Bruce Springsteen tune playing in the background.

Everything dies, baby, that’s a fact.
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty, And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

Let’s just hope that someday they’re not singing the same song about Chester.
