The Phillies are in the playoffs – at least as of right now.
Technically the Phils are tied with the Giants for the National League wild-card spot. But courtesy of their win over the Mets at a soggy CitiField last night, they actually scratched a couple of percentage points ahead.
They remain two games behind the Braves for the top spot in the NL East.
Kyle Kendrick continued his Jekyll & Hyde Act. Last night it was the good Kyle who showed up. After getting shelled in his last outing, unable to get out of the second inning, Kendrick went six and two-thirds strong innings last night, giving up just one run on six hits.
Shane Victorino also got in the act, banging out three hits in his best effort since returning from the disabled list.
Chase Utley and Ryan Howard look like they’re also getting ready to return to the lineup. Utley has made a couple of rehab starts in Clearwater and could be back in the Phils’ lineup when they open a home series against the Giants Tuesday night. Howard is now starting to take batting practice as he tests his tender ankle.
The Phils might actually have their full lineup ready for the stretch run.
Can you say playoffs?
