They will gather one more time in the city of Chester tonight.
Citizens will come together in an effort to stop the violence.
It is the last of a summerlong series of community rallies held by Mayor Wendell Butler. Tonight’s will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Wellington Ridge Housing development, at 12th and Highland Avenue in the city.
This last rally takes on added importance because of what happened in the city last weekend. No less than six people were shot in 5 incidents.
Some residents are asking the city to consider going bacl to the state of emergency – including a strict curfew and ban on public gatherings – that was put in place for more than a month this summer in the wake of an unprecedented wave of fatal shootings.
Mayor Butler seems reluctant to do so. We agree with him
