Are you ready for some Eagles?

It is almost time for the return of that Heron’s Nest staple, the Dreaded Saturday Eagles Pick.

Fans will have to wait another 24 hours before I look into my crystal ball and predict Sunday’s season opener for the Birds against the Packers at Lincoln Financial Field.

In the meantime, you can pore over our special 16-page special Eagles 2010 preview section in today's newspaper and also posted in Sports on the website.

Just let me say this: I have a very uneasy feeling about this season. I hope I’m wrong.

The NFL season actually kicked off last night with Drew Brees and the Saints hung on to win over Brett Favre and the Packers, 14-9.

In the meantime, space is quickly filling up on the Phillies bandwagon.

Yes, I distinctly remember writing just a month or so ago that this was not the Phillies year, that they were not going to make the playoffs.

I reserve the right to revise that prediction.

Yesterday the Phillies gained ground without even playing. The Braves lost again, meaning the Phils are now up a full game.

But there was still a whiff of trouble surrounding the Phils. Another injury. Placido Polanco gave an interview to AP in which he said he’s been playing with a small break in his left elbow.

You might remember the third-baseman spent some time on the DL earlier this year with elbow inflammation.

Add in the hamstring problem dogging shortstop Jimmy Rollins, and the entire right side of the Phils’ infield in hurting.

They head to the Big Apple tonight to drive a stake into the heart of the New York Mets.

If they can find it, that is.

The Phils are steaming toward the playoffs, and Gang Green returns on Sunday.

Hell, even Temple is now 2-0. All is right with the world.
