Bring on the Giants!
Just be careful what you wish for.
The San Francisco team that will arrive at Citizens Bank Park Saturday night to tangle with the Phillies is one of the few teams that can match the Phils vaunted starting pitching.
And that will be evident in Game 1 with a classic pitching matchup.
It is expected that the Phils will send their unquestioned ace, “Mr.
Doc-tober,” Roy Halladay to the mound. All he did in his one start in the NLDS was no-hit the best offensive lineup in the National League.
Don’t expect the Giants to blink. They will counter with Tim Lincecum.
He struck out 14 in blowing away the Braves Thursday night.
There are other storm clouds lingering over this series for Phillies fans. The Phils were just 3-3 in the regular season against the Giants.
The Phils hit just .226 against Giants pitching in those six games. The Giants hit .290 against the Phils.
The Phillies’ power edge also was negated against San Fran. They hit eight home runs in the regular season, to the Phils 3.
Settle in. This is likely going to be a long series, maybe going seven.
And it likely will be settled on the mound.
