Center of the sports universe

Just how far has Philly come in terms of being a sports town?

Welcome to the center of the sports universe – at least for this weekend.

All eyes will be rivted on the complex at Broad and Pattison for one of the truly memorable weekends in Philly sports history.

Here’s a look at what is on tap:

It all gets kicked off Saturday afternoon when Temple plays its homecoming game at Lincoln Financial Field at 1 p.m.

Fans will be rolling out of the Linc about the time Flyers and Phillies fans start pouring into the lots.

The Flyers have actually moved up the time of their game from 7 to 6 p.m. so as to ease a bit of the bottleneck.

First pitch in the NLCS between the Phils and Giants is set at 7:57.

I’m assuming people will actually go home Saturday night, but my guess there will be more than a few people who simply camp out and spend the night down there.

Sunday will arrive bright and early as tailgaters storm the lots for the Eagles 1 p.m. kickoff against the Atlanta Falcons.

The tricky element on Sunday will be to get all those Eagles fans out before the Phillies fans roll in. First pitch Sunday night is set at 8:19.

Here’s a suggestion: SEPTA. The transit agency is offering a special $5 rate for parking at their Center City lots and the ride on the Broad Street Line to the stadiums. They will be utilizing Sports Express trains on the Broad Street lines before all the weekend events in South Philly.

Don’t kid yourself. Tons of people will drive. Traffic will be a mess.

I will offer my Eagles pick as usual tomorrow. But here’s a freebie.

It says here Roy Halladay outduels Tim Lincecum in a pitcher’s match for the ages Saturday night.

Phillies 2, Giants 1.
