The dreaded Saturday Eagles pick

Anybody remember the Eagles? You know, those guys in midnight green who play on Sunday afternoons?

Last week the Birds went prime time and posted a win vs. the 49ers. Unfortunately - and no doubt the cause for much angst down at Nova Care Nation - the Eagles were playing at the same time as the Phillies, who were in the process of eliminating the Reds in the NLDS.

The Eagles won the game, but lost the TV ratings battle to the Phils.

At least this week Gang Green will have the stage to themselves Sunday afternoon before the Phils take the field in prime time again on Sunday night.

That might not be a good thing for all us Bird Brains.

That's because the Eagles will be facing the best team they have played yet this year. Exton native Matt Ryan will bring the 4-1 Falcons to town. In the meantime, Kevin Kolb will get his second straight start for the Birds. Michael Vick might dress, but I do not expect him to see much - if any - time, no matter how much he would like to play against his old team.

Offense will not be the Birds' problem Sunday. Kolb will be fine. Defense is another question. The Falcons have been running the ball well, and the Eagles have had trouble stopping the run.

Look for the Falcons to dominate time of possession, and grind the Eagles into the Lincoln Financial Field turf. It's time for the Eagles' defense to take a stand. If they do, they have a shot at getting the win.

I just don't think they will.

Make it Falcons 27, Eagles 17.

And as an an added bonus pick, I'll take Roy Halladay to outduel Tim Lincecum, 2-1, in a pitching duel for the ages. Phillies in six.

Last Week: I was on the money, with Kevin Kolb and the Birds getting a win on the Left Coast. I expected him to play well, and hid did not disappoint for the most part.

Season Record: I am still a solid 4-1 after after another win in the 49ers game. That keeps me one game game better than the Birds, who sit at at 3-2, which these days makes you the leader in the thoroughly mediocre NFC East.
