The dreaded Saturday Eagles pick

Depending on what the Phillies do tonight, the Eagles will either be a tasty appetizer or the main event for sports fans on Sunday.

The Birds travel to Tennessee, where they will face a team somewhat similar to the Falcons team they trounced last week. In other words, I don't think the Titans are as good as their record.

That will be even more so if backup quarterback Vince Young can't go and the Titans are led by veteran Kerry Collins, who I think played at Penn State when Joe Paterno was young.

In any rate the Birds defense will face their staunchest test of the season in superstar Tennesseee running back Chris Johnson. This one is pretty simple: Control him and the Eagles have a chance. Watch him run wild and the Birds will struggle. It won' be easy. He's had seven straight 100-yard performances vs. NFC teams.

Kevin Kolb will start again for the Eagles, and I see no reason why he will not continue to play well, even without DeSean Jackson in the lineup as he continues to try to clear the cobwebs from that vicious hit and concussion he suffered last week.

One other thing: For some reason, Andy Reid's teams always seem to struggle the week before their bye, then come back after the break with a vengeance. Then again, that argument is countered by the fact that the Titans are on a short week, after traveling to play on Monday night, a 30-3 pounding of the Jags.

And finally, this would not be a good week for kicker David Akers to continue the struggles he had last week battling the tricky winds at the Linc. They will need several kicks from Akers to win this one.

I think the Titans get just enough juice from Johnson to hold off another solid showing from Kolb.

Make it Titans 26, Eagles 23.

And as an an added bonus pick, I love Roy Oswalt and the Phils to win tonight and force a winner-take-all Game 7 Sunday night in South Philly.

Last Week: I'll admit it. I was surprised by how well the Birds fared against the Falcons. Then again I'm beginning to think Atlanta's early success was something of a mirage. But Kevin Kolb played out of his mind to get the Eagles a huge win.

Season Record: I am still a solid 4-2, even after fumbling the pick in the Falcons game. That also makes  me even with the Birds, who sit at at 4-2, still in first place in the NFC East.
