Not the best of days yesterday for Pat Meehan.
He’s the former Delco D.A. and U.S. Attorney who is jousting with Democratic state Rep. Bryan Lentz for the 7th District Congressional seat being vacated by Joe Sestak.
At least three different polls came out yesterday indicating that Meehan’s once comfy lead is all but gone. The race is now considered a dead heat.
Then last night, Meehan took a powder on the proposed debate held by the League of Women Voters.
His opponent showed up anyhow. So did third party candidate Jim Schneller. That was the rub for Meehan. He boycotted the event because he’s convinced Schneller would not be on the ballot were it not for a lot of help he got in getting signatures on his nominating petitions from Meehan backers.
The thought, of course, is that Schneller siphons off conservative votes from the Republican.
Meehan’s absence draw harpoons from both Lentz and Schneller, who had a field day blasting the Republican’s absence.
A little less than three weeks to go, and this one is going to be a barnburner.
