Wondering what to do while waiting for what seems like an eternity until the Phils and Giants tee it up in Game 1 of the NLCS Saturday night?
Well, here are a couple of suggestions. If you’re suffering from Phillies Phever, you could always join the crowd and take part in a pep rally being held downtown today. There will be a sea of red outside the Citizens Bank Center City Branch at 1 Penn Center. They’re hosting a Phillies pep rally from noon to 1 p.m. They will be handing out posters and rally towels.
Of course, if you happen to prowl the NovaCare Center, where the Eagles brass holds forth, all this Phillies hoopla is no doubt getting under your skin just a tad.
After all, this focus on the Phils is a bit new to you. You’re used to being the kings of Philly sports. You own the Back Page, or at least you always did.
Then the Phils started winning. And making the playoffs. And selling out Citizens Bank Park. And winning a World Series. And going back the next year. And now being back in the NLCS.
But Sunday night might have proved the ultimate blow to the Birds’ brains.
TV ratings show more people tuned in the Phils’ deciding win over the Reds in the NLDS than bothered to check out the Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
It’s enough to make you wonder if Andy Reid will call a press conference at 7 p.m. Saturday night to announce his starting quarterback for Sunday. You say that’s just a few minutes before first pitch of the NLCS? What a coincidence.
Time’s yours, Andy.
