It’s always one of my favorites way to discover great stories.
I pick up the phone.
Monday morning I arrived in the office to a voice-mail from a very soft-spoken woman who wanted to tell me – and our readers – how a group of volunteer firefighters saved her life.
Christine Pekala was riding down Bethel Road early Friday morning and soon found her car engulfed in flood waters. She soon found herself in a life-and-death situation.
You can read the thrilling story of Pekala’s ordeal – and the heroics of the men who likely saved her life – here.
Never undestimate the power of simply picking up the phone and calling us if you think you have a story.
You just might find yourself on our front page.
Just ask Christine Pekala.
