The Phillies are in the process of leaving their hearts in San Francisco.
It’s pretty clear they left their bats in Philly.
The Phlailin’s managed all of three hits in getting shut out by the Giants yesterday, 3-0.
The malaise goes through the entire lineup. Raul Ibanez is in the process of going 0-for-the-playoffs. Chase Utley is struggling, both at the plate and in the field. Ryan Howard is suddenly a gap hitter.
There is good news and bad news for the Phils and their fans. They are only down one game, 2-1. They can even the series tonight. But to do so they will need a big-time effort from starter Joe Blanton.
That’s right. Joe Blanton. Charlie Manuel is not going to tinker with his rotation and move up Roy Halladay to go on short rest.
There are two possible problems with Blanton. One would be that he has thrown exactly one inning since the last week of September.
Maybe more importantly just might be the first inning. It has been Blanton’s nemesis all season. If Blanton gets through the first, he usually manages to sail along until about the sixth, when he starts to run out of gas.
If he has trouble in the first … well, don’t ask.
Hey, how ‘bout that Kevin Kolb!
