Let's go to the videotape

I was once again reminded of something yesterday.

No, not the fact that Mike Chitwood is God’s gift to the news media.

The Upper Darby top cop was back in front of the cameras yesterday, talking about what he and his men have dubbed “the Grinches that Stole Halloween.”

Chitwood was loaded with a surveillance video that captures two women stealing the Halloween display outside Coco’s Pizza, which just happens to be located right around the corner from our office.

The woman are clear as day in the video, calmly getting out of their car, walking up and pilfering the display.

They appear oblivious to the fact that their every move is being preserved on videotape.

My guess is that most of us are, as well. Think about it. Ever wonder just how much of our lives is now being recorded on videotape?

Every time you walk in or out of the local Wawa, or the mall. Every time you stand in front of the Mac machine. Every time you drive through a toll plaza.

Big Brother is watching.

It’s almost kind of creepy.

Then again, it has its good points. My guess is that the two clueless women showcased by Chitwood yesterday likely will turn themselves in fairly soon, probably anxious to return to the Halloween display.

It’s become part of the stock trade of police work.

“Let’s go to the videotape.”
