Red October comin' back to Philly

They’re alive!

Even with a bum groin, Roy Halladay is proving to be worth every penny the Phillies are paying him.

In the biggest start of his career – and the Phillies season – Halladay suffered a groin strain in the second inning of last night’s crucial NLCS game against the Giants in San Francisco.

He didn’t bail out. Instead, he snarled his way through it, giving up just two runs on six hits over six innings.

This wasn’t the overpowering Halladay who threw a perfect game this year against the Marlins and a no-hitter in the NLDS against the Reds.

You could tell that almost from the start, when Halladay uncharacteristically walked the leadoff man.

He did not have his best stuff.

But he had the right stuff.

Even with a bum groin.

Now the Giants have to do the one thing they were hoping they would not have to do. They had to fly back across the country and now face the wrath of the faithful at Citizens Bank Park.

The only thing we don’t know is when the game will start. That depends on tonight’s Yankees-Rangers ALCS game. If the Yankees win and extend the series, the Phils will play at 3:47 Saturday afternoon. If the Rangers close out the Yanks, the Phils-Giants will bump back to 7:57p.m.

Red October is alive and well in Philadelphia.

The Phils ruined their party in San Francisco. Now they need to win two games at home.

Break out the rally towels.
