Remember the World Series?

It’s amazing how quickly our sports landscape can change.

It was just a few days ago when most Philly fans had tonight circled on their calendars.

I think it’s safe to assume that was not because of the Sixers opener, even if they are playing Lebron James and the mighty Miami Heat.

No, tonight was supposed to be Game 1 of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park.

Didn’t quite work out that way.

Instead, the Fall Classic is pretty much an afterthought. Sure, we’ll tune in to check out our old pal Cliff Lee, who is starting tonight for the Texas Rangers against Tim Lincecum of the Giants in what should be a pitching classic.

But the thrill is gone, because, in short, the Phillies are, too.

Instead we are left to contemplate those riveting early-season Flyers games, a week off for the Eagles as we continue to debate Vick vs. Kolb, and the Phils’ off-season moves.

Of course, there is always the Sixers.

Uh, don’t remind us. What does it say about a team when their biggest move appears to be the addition of coach Doug Collins.

Andre Turner, the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft last spring, could not crack the starting lineup. He will be on the bench tonight when a packed house greets King James and his new Miami Heat teammates. By the way, the Heat dropped their opener last night in Boston.

None of which is going to make the sting of what was supposed to be a huge night any easier to take.

The Rangers and Giants meet tonight in the World Series.

Make sure you set the snooze button.
