The things a newspaper editor thinks of

Ever wonder what kind of things go through a newspaper editor’s head?

Things like this:

Let’s just say that the Phils (hopefully) prevail against the Giants in the National League Championship Series and advance to the World Series.

Let’s further proclaim that Red October morphs into November.

To the joyous cacophony of fans all over the Delaware Valley, the Phillies beat the hated New York Yankees in Game 6 to take their second World Series championship in three years.

Anyone care to fathom a guess as to when that game would be played.

Yes, that would be on Tuesday night, Nov. 2. The game would likely start just moments after the polls close.

The same night that Joe Sestak learns his fate in his Senate war vs. Pat Toomey to replace Arlen Specter, and the Lentz-Meehan contest in the 7th District is decided, the Phils win the World Series.

So what do you do with the front page the next day?

If you have a suggestion, post a comment on here and let me know. Or e-mail me at editor@delcotimes.com.

My initial inclination is that the Phillies likely would be a skybox and the elections would still be our lead.

Except for the fact that the whole point of that kind of morning-after-winning-the-World-Series front page is done as something of a souvenir. People will buy a paper, often times several, just to have them. To take advantage of that market, the Phils need to be the focus of the page, if not the entire page, as we did with our World Champs page two years ago.

Of course, I am getting ahead of myself. The Phils haven't won anything yet, aside from another National League East crown and their NLDS against the Reds. Still, it’s rattling around there in the deep recesses of my mind,

Welcome to my world.
