Wrong-way driver causes chaos on I-95

File this one under “things you don’t see everyday.”

You’re cruising along on I-95, or at least what usually passes for cruising. You’re driving northbound through the city of Chester. You happen to glance over into the southbound lanes, and you see something that strikes you as odd. A car heading in the same direction you are.

That’s what happened to Tim Fleming yesterday.

What happened next was about what you might expect. Traffic southbound on I-95 was forced to swerve out of the way as an elderly woman in a station wagon continued to drive north in the wrong lanes, seemingly oblivious to the fact that she was doing anything wrong.

Her actions touched off several accidents. Now state police want to know who the woman was, and how she managed to be driving north in the southbound lanes.

They don’t know because the woman did not stop. In fact, no one is quite sure what happened to her, other than she apparently did not collide with another car. Maybe she managed to make it to the next exit. Police say she may face charges in the rubble she left in her wake.

She was driving an older model blue Buick station wagon, with wood paneling on the sides.

Anyone with any information on who she is is urged to call state police at 484-840-1000, or just dial 911.
