6:45 p.m.: There's at least one happy man in Philadelphia tonight.
That would be U.S. Rep. Bob Brady. Yes, he won re-election, but he wasn't opposed. That's not the reason for the smile.
The reason is what appears to be a strong turnout in the city.
Brady, head of the city Democratic Party, said be believes turnout could top the 41 percent recorded in the last mid-term election in 2006. Joe Sestak, Dan Onorato and other Dems need a big boost from the base in Philly to have a chance of winning.
You might also recall that GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett took a bit of a jab at Brady at a gathering in Delco that ended with Corbett taking a lot of heat. Corbett related that Gov. Ed Rendell said that Brady should resign if he could not get 50 percent turnout in the city. Corbett stressed Brady should get his resignation letter ready because he didn't think he was going to get that 50 percent.
Then he quipped that the GOP needed to "keep it down," referring to turnout in the city.
That comment, captured on video by our Tim Logue, did not sit well with a lot of people. I don't really think Corbett was advocating voter suppression, but that is the straw Onorato reached for.
While he may not get 50 percent, Brady looks like he is delivering for the Democratic team.
