Tough times for Cowboys, McNabb

Who knew that the bye week could bring so many interesting developments for Eagles fans?

Yes, that was the same Dallas team that throttled the Eagles two straight weeks to end last season getting handed their lunch yesterday.
At least I think it was. They did have stars on their helmets. But they didn’t much look like “America’s Team.”

Instead, they have turned into Jerry Jones’ nightmare. The team that many picked to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl (which by the way will be played in Jones’ new gazillion-dollar stadium) got waxed by the Jacksonville Jags. The Cowboys are now 1-6 and officially dead in the water.

Jon Kitna started for the injured Tony Romo and did nothing to ease the growing belief that many of his teammates have simply quit.

About the only question now left for the Cowboys is whether Jones will let head coach Wade Phillips keep his job the rest of the season or give him his walking papers now.

Then there is our old pal Donovan McNabb. Yes, that was No. 5 standing on the sidelines with a baseball cap on while Rex Grossman directed the Redskins’ final drive yesterday.

Rex Grossman?

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan pulled McNabb after a less-than-spectacular 17-for-30 day, with one interception.

Of course, Grossman fumbled on the first snap after he entered the game and the Redskins lost, 37-25.

After the game came a rather damning statement from Shanahan, who made it clear that in that situation, running the two-minute drill with no timeouts left, he felt Grossman gave him his best chance to win.

Sound familiar?

The Eagles return Sunday with a very big game against the Colts. Michael Vick is expected to be back under center.

Anyone think that either the Cowboys or Redskins would give their left arm to have either Vick or Kevin Kolb running their offense.

Should Vick somehow lead the Eagles to a win over the Colts, it would set up two very big games vs. the New York Giants for the NFC East crown.

In the meantime, it looks like last rites for two other hated NFC East Rivals. The Cowboys and Redskins look like they’re both finished, with Phillips and McNabb swinging in the breeze.
