Why it's all about turnout

8:30 a.m. This just in. Pat Toomey, the Republican running against Joe Sestak, also has voted.

There is some bad news for Sestak, judging by early turnout on the Main Line. Jennaphr Frederick from Fox-29 is at the polling place at Radnor High School where almost no one has showed up t vote. She reprots that as of 7:30 only 20 people had cast their ballots.

I mentioned earlier that turnout was the key for the day. Very simply, Sestak and Dan Onorato need big numbers from Philadelphia and other urban areas. If turnout lags, and it's expected to be about 35 percent, that does not bode well for them.

Even though Democrats hold a huge registration edge in the state, it's pretty clear that Republicans are more motivated to vote.

Democrats must drive out the vote among their base. Otherwise, it might just be an early night for Sestak and Onorato.

I voted at 7:45 am this morning in Philly. It was dead. No one was voting. Democrat volunteers were worried. This will be a route. Hats off to Obama and Reid! They managed to pull off an extraordinary feat- push McCain's presidential Republican platform, kowtowing to banks and Rubinites, thereby alienating the democratic base, while still being accused by the media cretins of being a socialist. Way to go!- undermine the progressive message, while accomplishing NOTHING progressive.
