A tale of 2 budgets

Here’s a stunner.

What if they held a county budget hearing and nobody showed up?

Well, almost nobody. They held the public hearing last night on the county’s proposed $315 million 2011 budget. The blueprint does not include a tax hike, in large part because the county is offering a huge early retirement plan.

With no tax hike, there wasn’t much to bitch about.

Exactly one person showed up. Maybe council’s regular session this morning will be packed. I wouldn’t bet on it. They will take public comment again then and then pass the measure at their meeting next week.

Compare that to what is going on out in Bethel.

Like many Delco towns, they’re staring down the barrel of a substantial tax hike.

The place was expected to be packed as the Bethel supervisors voted on the measure last night.

We’ll have a full report later today.
