He is, perhaps, the most unlikely – and ironic - murder victim.
John Wheeler III was a decorated veteran. He was a West Point grad who served three presidents, and was influential in getting a memorial constructed to honor his brothers in arms from the Vietnam Era.
Now authorities are trying to determine how Wheeler’s body wound up in a landfill in Wilmington, Del.. His body apparently was picked up by a garbage truck making rounds of dumpsters in Newark.
It is believed Wheeler was expected to take an Amtrak train home from Washington, D.C.
What happened next is anyone’s guess, and is garnering national headlines.
