In keeping with The Daily Numbers for Jan. 14th let's do some additonal number things... Governor Rendell extolls the fact that $31 billion in Stimulus spending created or saved 136,000 jobs. By golly that sounds like a phenomonal investment of your and my hard earned tax dollars which we have remitted to Washington. But the math doesn't necessarily seem as impressive. What Governor Rendell is saying is that it cost $227,941.18 to create or save each of those 136,000 jobs. Hopefully each and every one of those jobs created or saved has a enduring shelf life of at least five years so those 136,000 people can have earned $45,588 during each of those five years with which they could have at least minimally used support themselves and their families. Sorry, Mr. Governor. The hype doesn't seem to square with the real math... The fact remains that the Stimulus didn't stimulate. It only gave politicans like our soon-to-be former Governor the license to throw out big numbers in an attempt to impress the electorate with (not) how well they did...
