The Eagles have a new slogan - and Vick

The Eagles have a new slogan.

And, of course, a T-shirt to put it on that they will be more than happy to sell you.

They are pushing a theme introduced by defensive back Asante Samuel at halftime of the Giants game a couple weeks back.

Trailing and not playing especially well, Samuel challenged his teammates to show “heart.”

The message apparently didn’t sink in for another quarter and a half, when Michael Vick put the Birds on his back and pulled off a miraculous comeback win.

Voila! A slogan was born. And the T-shirts followed. The green jerseys adorned with the Eagles logo and the single word ‘heart’ emblazoned under it are suddenly a big seller. The team is pushing the message as its official playoff slogan.

It certainly will help if they have heart in the playoffs.

It will help a lot more if they have a healthy Michael Vick playing the way he did a couple months ago, not necessarily the way he’s played the past couple of weeks.

Vick should be well rested as he recovers from a bruised quad muscle in his leg. He and most of the other Eagles starters took the day off Sunday as the Eagles fell to the Cowboys in what amounted to a "bye" week meaningless game. Yesterday Vick said he expected to be 100 percent on Sunday.

He’d better be. The Eagles will go exactly as far in these playoffs as Vick takes them – with his arm and his legs.

If he plays well, they have a good chance of advancing. If he continues to be perplexed by the blitz, makes poor decisions and turns the ball over, the Eagles could be one and done.

Heart? If Vick does not play well, the Birds will need a heart transplant.
