It’s still beyond comprehension exactly what was happening inside the Women’s Medical Society clinic in West Philadelphia.
Prosecutors pretty much summed up the place where Dr. Kermit Gosnell was performing late-term abortions in depraved conditions as a “house of horrors.” They’ll get no argument form me.
Even more troubling is that fact that there is every indication that state regulators repeated turned a blind eye to what was going on at the clinic.
Yesterday they held a hearing in Harrisburg trying to shed some light on how these conditions were ignored for so long, and how so many complaints went unheeded. But two state senators who held the hearing hit a brick wall. That’s because many state employees in the departments who were supposed to be overseeing abortion clincs such as Gonsell’s in West Philly have now lawyered up. The senators say they will continue pushing, and seek subpoenas if they have to. Good for them.
