All eyes on Cliff Lee

Cliff Lee strode to the mound yesterday once again wearing the red pinstripes of the Phillies.

The fans in Clearwater cheered wildly.

He threw his first pitch for a strike. More cheers. His second plunked a Detroit Tiger in the shoulder. He walked the next guy.

All to the delight of more than 5,000 people jammed into Bright House Field.

All of which reminds me that the hottest ticket in town is probably not ducats to the Phils’ opener on April 1. Rather I would think it would instead be for the next night, April 2, against the Astros.

Roy Halladay almost assuredly will pitch the opener. But I would love to be in the house when Lee strides to the mound at Citizens Bank Park.

What do you think the over/under on the ovation will be. I put it at two minutes.

Thunderous. Lee just might be the most popular athlete in Philly. Not bad for a guy who hasn’t pitched here in more than a year.
